E-Inclusion Awards 2012 now open for entries

Almost a quarter of Europeans aged 16 and over has never used the internet. The European Commission established the e-Inclusion Awards to raise awareness, to encourage participation and to recognise excellence and good practice in using ICT and digital technology in order to tackle social and digital exclusion across Europe.

The aim is to collect best practices across Europe in supporting people to go online and the stories of individuals who have benefited from their internet experience. Information about the impact of initiatives will be collected through an application form. Audiovisual material that shows the success of the submitted initiative and stories told on blogs, Facebook, Twitter and other platforms would be most welcome.

Deadline for submission of entries is 4 May 2012 .

About the 2012 awards

This year, the e-Inclusion Awards have 2 categories, with 2 types of winner for each category:

  • I am Part of IT award

This award is for individuals who have felt significant benefit and empowerment by becoming e-included. How digital literacy and skills have lead to employability, re-skilling or a clear improvement in the socio-economic situation  of a person at risk of social exclusion or isolation.

  • Be Part of IT Champions award

This award is for organisations (or individuals outside of organisations) who champion e-inclusion by undertaking and supporting relevant projects. This can include work such as training the trainer, coordinating delivery of e-inclusion enabling improvements in access, content, skills or confidence.
